Day 1
Bucharest to Sunny Beach
Get ready, it’s time for the adventure to kick off! We’ll board the coach and begin our journey to the Bulgarian coastal resort of Sunny Beach. Chill out and enjoy the scenery as we make our way into Bulgaria just in time for a lunch stop, before continuing along the picturesque coastline of the Black Sea for our evening arrival at Sunny Beach. We’ll arrive late in the afternoon, and after checking in, the night is yours to enjoy this seaside gem’s buzzing nightlife!
Day 2
Sunny Beach
Grab some breakfast and head to the beach to soak up the sun and have a refreshing dip, or join in with some of the water sports on offer in the clear turquoise sea. Have a go at tubing or paragliding, or head out on a boat tour! Your guide will be around today for a visit to Nessebar, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. We’ll take the opportunity to explore the cultural side of Sunny Beach, and later you can relax in one of the local restaurants. This area really has something on offer for everyone, so there will be no shortage of entertainment options available. Chat to your fantastic Busabout guide if you need any guidance on where to go.
Day 3
Sunny Beach to Plovdiv
Chow down on breakfast before we board the coach and begin our journey towards Bulgaria’s second largest city, and the home of numerous ancient Roman ruins, Plovdiv! We make our arrival in Europe’s oldest inhabited city, dating back to the 6th millennium BC, around lunchtime. With over 200 archaeological sites, Plovdiv has a rich and long standing history that is incomparable to almost anywhere else on earth. See the ancient Roman theatre dating back to the 1st century, the much younger Roman stadium of Philippopolis, the Old Town, and the remains of the very first settlement on Nebet Hill! Tonight, we’ll head out on the town in this historic city.
Day 4
Plovdiv to Sofia
It’s time to hit the road again, as we say farewell to Plovdiv and journey onwards to the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia! We’ll arrive just before lunch time, and have a bit of time to stretch our legs and explore. See the impressive St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world), and marvel at the red brick Rotunda of St George which dates back to the 4th century. Get wonderfully lost in the labyrinthian Central Market Hall and experience all the unique sights and smells of Bulgaria. Join us tonight for a traditional Bulgarian optional dinner, then go forth and enjoy Sofia’s incredible nightlife!
Day 5
Sofia to Belgrade
We make an early departure today for the Serbian border and our destination, the capital city of Belgrade. After crossing the border we have our first stop in the ancient city of Nis! Have a wander and check out the historic fortifications of Nis Fortress, and explore the ancient Ottoman ruins. When you’re feeling a bit peckish, have a rest and enjoy a tasty local lunch. Then it’s back aboard the coach, and onwards to Belgrade where we’ll arrive later on this afternoon. After we get settled into our new accommodation, we’ll head out for an optional walking tour of the city to see the sights and get your bearings. Save some energy for tonight - we have our epic pub crawl known as the Belgrade Blitz, so join us for a memorable night out in Belgrade’s unique surroundings!
Day 6
Belgrade
This is your day to spend in Belgrade however you please! Get out and about and start exploring. Check out the local museums, churches, the Old Palace and the parliamentary buildings. For those who want to see something a bit different, head to the Nikola Tesla Museum where you can find an archive of his designs, drawings, and original documents. If you feel like relaxing and taking a load off, visit Kalemegdan Park and spread out on one of the pristine grassy areas. This is an extremely historic and culturally significant park, so make sure you check out the fortress while you’re there! Tonights explore the city’s buzzing nightlife, or get some rest and gear up for another epic day.
Day 7
Belgrade to Budapest
Time flies when you’re having fun! We have made it to our last full day of the adventure, so make the most of it. We’ll make our way towards the Hungarian border and our destination of Budapest. Firstly though, we’ll have a stop en route in Serbia’s second-largest city, Novi Sad. Grab a local lunch, and get some great photos of the city from the Petrovaradin Fortress. The views are incredible! Then it’s time to board our trusty coach and continue onwards to Budapest, where we’ll make our arrival this evening. The night is yours to spend as you wish, so visit the ruin bars and have a drink with your Busabout family. It’s time to reflect on an incredible adventure, and party the night away!
Day 8
Budapest
Check-out is after breakfast this morning. If you’re continuing your journey on our Hop-on Hop-off network, the next stop is Split via Zagreb!
