Edinburgh
The start of your New Year adventure! Arrive in Edinburgh, check in to your hostel and settle in from 3pm onwards. You will meet with your Guide and trip mates in the evening as it’s time to get the Hogmanay festivities started and sample a few local beers in Edinburgh’s famous pubs. If you're arriving early and want some recommendations about what to do in the city, pop in and see us in the Royal Mile for some ideas. We're the local experts!
Edinburgh
Today you'll get a real taste of the Southern Highlands. We leave the city and head towards Stirling, an area where legends such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce made their names on the battlefield. There may even be time for a snowball fight, depending on the weather! Later, take in the official opening of the festival. Join 35,000 people for the Torchlight Procession where torchbearers march through the city led by the famous Shetland Vikings. This is truly a spectacular sight and not to be missed. Besides, it's the perfect warm-up for our legendary HAGGiS Ceilidh - a night of traditional Scottish dancing. Get carried away by our lively music and make friends for life when you party all night. You can bet that your feet will be sore in the morning from all the spinning on the dance floor!
Edinburgh
We kick off the day with the Aussie and Kiwi New Year surrounded by loads of fellow Antipodeans, all keen to celebrate early in the morning. Party on as the celebrations continue around the globe or take some free time to explore the capital's highlights and the sparkling Winter Festival. Wrap up and get ready for the main event, make sure to grab your Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party ticket before heading to the best New Year celebration in the world. Awesome music, lots of dancing and eye-popping fireworks against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle are on the cards. When the clock strikes 12, it’s your chance to kiss everyone you can get your hands on and wish them Happy Hogmanay before joining a sign-along with thousands of people singing Auld Lang Syne from the top of their lungs!
Edinburgh
No doubt there will be a few sore heads this morning but what better cure for a hangover than a Loony Dook! For over thirty years, South Queensferry has played host to this insane event. Hundreds of, well... loonies, take to the freezing waters of the Firth of Forth, most in fancy dress and all of them up for a good time. This event helps to raise thousands of pounds for charity and with the impressive Forth Bridge in the background; this obscure tradition is an event not to be missed. After an optional ‘refreshing’ swim in the sea, we head back to the capital where you can join the Edinburgh's city-wide activities. Climb Arthur’s Seat for a grand view over the city or check out the crown jewels in Edinburgh Castle. Tonight we have one final fling for those who are still up for it!
Edinburgh
Sadly, all good things have to come to an end. Check out of your hostel by 10am, after four incredible days welcoming in the New Year the best way possible; HAGGiS Style! Before you leave, be sure to breathe in the last of that fine Scottish air, appreciate the magnificent views of this awesome city, and hug your new friends’ goodbye before heading off on your travels.
